Shouldn’t I be packing? May 21, 2009

Yes. I should.

As predicted, M has napped (for her) really well this week, with several 90 minute naps. Of course, today she was up at 5:30 and then took a short morning nap. Today, the day that I have to stop doing laundry and start packing for our trip to Boston. Oh, and take C to “Dad’s Night” from 6:30 – 7:30, and be home for our 8:30 car service pickup, and then the flight at 11:30. PM. Good times. Somewhere in there I was hoping to squeeze kid baths, but they might have to just be stinky. I mean, they aren’t THAT stinky.

With all this sleep, M has been quite a fun baby this week. Jamming to tunes, palming the ball, and generally looking cute.

She is nearing expert level on the stairs, and almost always crawls backwards down instead of attempting the forward roll.

Last weekend we went to the birthday party of one of C’s (and our) good friends. The girls always immediately declothe and put on princess outfits. The littlest princess was excited about the birthday hat, except for when I accidentally snapped her with the elastic.

For the friend’s birthday, I made another version of the dress I made for C (by request). Each one gets easier, but there are still several mistakes in this one. Sigh.

Right now I am trying to quickly finish another dress for C to take with us to Boston. Whose brilliant idea was that?? (Oh yeah. My idea.) The girls are beyond excited—C wants to hit every ice cream parlor and bookstore in Boston, and see all her old playgrounds. M is just excited all the time. I am excited to be looking back on our solo red eye instead of looking forward to it. And, to see all my friends that I haven’t seen in ages and ages. Hopefully the cat won’t get [any more] ornery in our absence. Til then, the old five tooth smile (yep still just five).

Oh yeah, Mother’s Day May 14, 2009

Of course we celebrated with our west coast tradition—brunch + visiting the Kirkland Open Studios. (Even when G was out of town last year the girls and I kept up the tradition.)

Somebody got a little sleepy…

Perfect. And as I put C to bed I told her that every day I am her mommy is a special day, and she said “Every day I am near you is a special day for me!” What more can I ask for?

Playing at our neighborhood playground—mouth blue from trying to eat chalk (you look away for one second and…), dirty from crawling all around, and tired from attempting over and over to crawl up the slide like the big kids.

Little M…I thought I would be more sad to not have a little baby anymore, but really she is getting more and more fun. Plays peek a boo constantly, tries to put on her own shoes and socks (by holding them near her feet), says something like “shoes” and “socks”, gives the best hugs, tackles C at every opportunity, unloads anything left near her that is loaded (boxes of toys, laundry baskets, dishwashers, etc.), willing to put just about anything in her mouth, and spends the vast majority of the day attempting to crawl down the hallway and up the stairs (hallway gate purchased and will be installed this weekend!).

Still with the five teeth, no walking, few words (but babbles a LOT). We are working and working on getting napping straightened out. (Aside one: gosh, I thought buying the No Cry Nap Solution would be enough, turns out I have to actually read it and implement a plan. Crap.  Aside two: you know it will be just my luck to get her napping really well right before we leave for Boston, which is sure to mess her up again royally.) We did buy some el cheapo blackout shades that just tape onto the window frame, and that seems to be helping. Working on longer naps—the occasional 90 minute crib nap, but lots of little 40 minute ones still. Most often when I have tried to leave her sleeping with G to go pick up C from school…poor G is supposed to be working and ends up upstairs with a cranky little baby. Baby steps, right?

In other news…last weekend we hit the zoo and M had a wonderful time playing with Daddy:

Playing in the worm garden (don’t worry, it is a plastic climb on worm):

And, um, “playing” with big sister:

Really, I think it will come as a shock to her some day to realize there are animals at the zoo.
